The rural agricultural community on the Shetland Islands have a long and prestigious history of rearing Britain’s most northerly native sheep breed and collecting its high-quality wool. This is part of a practice known as crofting, which is integral to the landscape, cultural heritage and social economy of the Shetland Islands. It bonds people and places in a unique way, preserving livelihoods and age old traditions.
We had long awaited the opportunity to work with Shetland Island Wool, a fibre world-renowned for its fineness, warmth and strength. We were delighted to be given the chance by Jamieson & Smith of Shetland to use this fantastic fleece.
Ever since the initial launch in 2017, enthusiastic crafters have been requesting new colours.
So, as part of this collection WYS have developed six new shades; two solids and four unique tweed colourways. They have been designed to be interchangeable with the existing collection to create harmonious and eye catching combinations across the range.
Another brilliant spiral-bound book was produced by West Yorkshire Spinners to complement their very special range of 100% Shetland Wool yarn - The Croft Shetland Tweed and The Croft Shetland Colours.
In this new book, you will find 8 fantastic designs for adults from garments to accessories.

"Reared, Sheared & Spun in Britain!"
Situated in the original home of the British Worsted Spinning Industry, West Yorkshire Spinners combines state of the art technology with generations of expertise and unrivalled know-how to produce British hand knitting yarns and knitted garments of exceptional quality.
At West Yorkshire Spinners we are extremely proud of our British Heritage, we are one of the few remaining worsted spinning companies left in the United Kingdom. We are also one of very few who still develop and market yarns in-house. This affords us the freedom to innovate which sets us apart from the competition.
We firmly believe that knowing where our raw material comes from guarantees that the quality of the finished product is consistently high.
We source all our own raw material which is then produced into knitting yarn in our state of the art factory based here in West Yorkshire. This reduces the carbon footprint of our products and also enables us to manufacture at a very low cost.
