Galler Yarns is perhaps most known for its luxuriously soft Belangor Angora, which the brand produces in an array of striking colourways ranging from sumptuously rich to eye-catchingly luminous. With a commitment to humanely producing fibres of exceptional quality, it’s clear why the Luxembourg-born brand is among our favourites here at Tribe.
Hailing from the heart of 1920s Luxembourg, Joseph Galler and his brother first began business as ‘H.Galler – Bonneterie en Gros’, or ‘H.Galler – Wholesale Handknitting Yarns’ in their late teens.
After much hard work and determination using their father’s name (the boys were too young to assume the business title), the duo successfully grew and maintained the shop for around two decades before Germany’s invasion of Luxembourg in 1940 forced the business to close.
At this point, Joseph Galler and his family decided to move to New York, beginning life over the pond as ‘Joseph Galler Inc.’. The fledgling company was one of the first of its kind, boasting a vast showroom in the city that operated until Joseph’s death in April 1993 at the age of 92.
Today, the business is still family-run by Joseph’s granddaughter, Star, who places enormous importance on maintaining its global reputation for stunning, high-quality yarns while ensuring that their luxurious fibres are cultivated humanely.
