Balayage is a yarn which we recommend time and time again as the most perfect fingering/4ply weight shawl yarn. It's that good!

This gorgeous yarn is result of a collaboration between Melanie Berg, aka Mairlynd, and Pascuali with the aim to develop a high-quality yarn with a specific colour concept: unlimited creative options with flow harmoniously into one another, almost as if dyed by hand.

Balayage is a dreamy soft, drapy yarn, with just enough halo that's particularly well suited to colour techniques such as jacquard or Fair Isle, without being overly "toothy". It's next-to-skin soft.

The particular fibre content and blend has been meticulously researched and tested in order to produce a yarn which gives the right soft and varied colour effect in exactly the right tones. Equally important is the handle and quality of the yarn: primarily intended to be suitable for varied and colourful shawls so not too fluffy or too smooth.

Colour groups of four colours are designed to work together and can be combined with colours from the other groups to achieve a contrast.

The colours are inspired by the variety of colours in Peru and are named after places in Peru.

Sustainability is at the heart of the production process from the animal fibres right through to the packaging materials.

The yarn is produced in a continuous process in Peru. In the plateaus of Peru, the alpacas are able to move around freely and are kept in a manner that is appropriate for the species. The animals are shorn with modern machines in order to subject the animals to as little stress as possible. The working conditions for the farmers are fair, and great value is placed on a recycling economy in order to protect the environment. This means that the entire process of ultimately processing these wonderful fibres to create yarn is self-contained. For example, the mud that is created when the fibres are washed is used to fertilise the pastures. Care is taken to ensure that energy consumption is made more environmentally friendly by using solar energy and the water that is used is recycled in the recycling system.

    • Pascuali are a young company from Cologne who's yarns are characterized by their rarity and deluxe class with outstanding high quality.

All Pascuali yarns are made exclusively from fair-traded natural fibres produced in an ecological and fair way, where exceptional quality is just as important as the careful keeping of the animals.

The company owner personally travels to far-flung locations to visit each farm and inspect the farm animal treatment and housing conditions. Yarns are never purchased through intermediaries. The wool quality is as much in focus as the conditions on the farms for our company.

Before we choose the wool of the best quality we check out 20 fair farms with the same wool.
