The Journal of Scottish Yarns: Volume 2

Welcome to the second issue of The Journal of Scottish Yarns, Autumn / Winter 2022!

This new bi-annual publication was created to build community, and to promote and support Scottish textiles and related creativity by:

1. telling stories (past and present) about people, places and businesses
2. sharing specially commissioned craft designs (knitting, crochet and crewel work in issue 1)

A digital download code (pdf) is included (inside the back cover).

Contents include:

1. Di Gilpin: a retrospective on the career - so far - of knitwear designer and Scottish textile advocate
   
   
2. King Charles III is patron of The Princes Trust which seeks to preserve heritage crafts including knitting. This article looks at one of their programmes, Knitwise, which culminated in an installation in the arboreteum of Dumfries House in Ayrshire

6. Black Isle Yarns: story of a small yarn producer who gathers fleece from smallholdings on the Black Isle and hand dyes the spun yarn using natural plant dyes
   
   
7. Woven Identities: Tartan meets Koru by Maori artist Mitchell Manuel: an exploration cultural heritage and symbolism inspired by Scottish ancestry, based on the autumn exhibition at the Smith Gallery in Stirling
   
   
8. A view of New Zealand from emigrating Scots via the Diaspora Tapestry
