  • Sugar Cardigan Pattern

    Format

    Designed by Marianne Isager.

This version is a pattern update of SUGAR (Sukkertrøjen in Danish), an older but very popular design. The new version is knitted in Merlin and Trio and has a better fitted set-in-sleeve.

SUGAR was a gift to Marianne from her aunt, Ella. The original sweater was green and Ella wore it while she was gardening. She exchanged it for sugar ration stamps during World War 2, hence the name.

Marianne loved it, and in the 80s she made a knitting pattern for it which quickly became a classic because of its lovely yet simple cable pattern and beautiful collar. The pattern is mostly worked in garter stitch, but with little cables worked over the 2 stockinette stitches between the garter stitch stripes.

Available in hardcopy (paper) or digital (delivered via Ravelry - please supply Ravelry username in Order Notes if you would like us to add to your Rav library).
